Pentagon Chief Chris Miller said on Sunday, January 3, that the United States, after threats from Iran, left the Nimitz aircraft carrier in the region, which was planned to be withdrawn from there.
He stressed that the ship will remain on duty in the area of operations of the US Central Command.
"Because of the recent threats made by Iranian leaders against President (US) Donald Trump and other US officials, I have ordered Nimitz to stop its usual relocation, "Miller was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
The head of the Pentagon did not specify which threats of the Iranian leadership led to such a decision.
Earlier, on November 30, it became known that the American carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Nimitz after passing the Strait of Hormuz entered the waters of the Persian Gulf. Earlier it was reported that the aircraft carrier was decided to relocate to another location.
On January 2, it was reported that US intelligence agencies believe that Iran has increased the level of combat readiness of part of its naval forces over the past 48 hours.
Earlier, on January 1, Iran's Charge d'affaires to the UN, Eshag al-Habib, asked the UN Security Council and the international community to call on the United States to stop destabilizing actions in the Persian Gulf. According to him, in recent weeks, "US military adventurism" has intensified in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. He added that the United States has delivered high-tech weapons to these territories.
