Moscow. January 2. INTERFAX-The control point of the space echelon of the missile attack warning system (SPRN) has been upgraded, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"As part of the improvement of the space echelon of the missile attack warning system, a complete modernization of the control point of the space echelon of the SPRN was carried out," the military department said in a statement.
"The second phase of deployment of an orbital group of the Unified space system, which will be the basis of a space echelon of the early warning system and will significantly reduce the time of detection of ballistic missiles, as well as to considerably improve the efficiency and accuracy of the information warning of the military-political leadership of the country on missile threats," - said in the defense Ministry.
The report notes that the ground echelon of the SPRN is developing - the network of radar stations "Voronezh".
"Work continues on the creation of a new radar station in the Murmansk region. This year, it is planned to complete the construction of the Voronezh radar station in the Komi Republic, " the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
As reported by Interfax, another radar of the SPRN system will be built near Sevastopol.
The military reported that seven Voronezh radars in the Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, Orenburg regions, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk and Altai Territories are on combat duty for radar control of missile-hazardous areas.
"In 2020, more than 80 launches of foreign and domestic ballistic missiles and space missiles were detected by the on-duty means of the Russian missile attack warning system, specialized means of space control systems and missile defense systems," the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said in a statement.
Over-the-horizon radar stations "Voronezh" operate in various radio wave bands. Radars are capable of detecting space, ballistic and hypersonic objects.
