Russian Soyuz-ST rocket with French satellite launched from Kourou cosmodrome

The satellite weighing more than 3.5 tons was created by the European corporation Airbus Defense and Space

PARIS, December 29. /TASS/. The Russian Soyuz-ST launch vehicle with the French CSO-2 reconnaissance satellite successfully launched on Tuesday from the Kourou cosmodrome in French Guiana. The live broadcast is available on the website of the space launch operator Arianespace.

The satellite weighing more than 3.5 tons was created by the European corporation Airbus Defense and Space. It will be placed in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 480 km. CSO-2 is designed for a 10-year service life.

The customers of the satellite are the National Center for Space Research of France and the General Directorate of Armaments of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic. The corporation's website emphasizes that the device is " designed to monitor the Earth's surface in order to ensure safety."
