Russian experts are preparing to fly a plane with a superconducting engine. We have already carried out the installation of the power plant and a test run of the engine.
On the preparation for the flight of an innovative aircraft equipped with a superconducting engine, reported in the CIAM named after P. I. Baranov. Installation of the power plant was carried out on the territory of the Siberian research Institute of aviation named after Chaplygin.
The electric motor was installed in the nose of the flying laboratory, made on the basis of the Yak-40 aircraft. Previously, the engine has already passed a number of tests on ground stands.
The electric motor was developed by the company "Superox". Its power is 500 kW. According to the plan, the first flight of the flying laboratory should be performed in 2021.
It is assumed that the use of such a power plant will make it possible to reduce the charge consumption of batteries. As noted in CIAM, this direction can be considered one of the most important in modern aviation.
Recall that not so long ago, the company Harbour Air conducted tests of its new aircraft with "zero emissions". The machine is based on the Cessna 208B. It received a 560 kW engine. Prior to this, Harbour Air installed the same engine on a small seaplane.
