The Kalashnikov Concern announced the successful completion of full-scale tests of the Strela 9M333 anti-aircraft guided missile (SAM) for the Strela 10M air defense system. The shooting took place at the Donguz training ground in the Orenburg region.
According to the published video footage, the tests were carried out including in the dark. Judging by the video, the missile successfully hit several targets, and therefore began its mass production for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The 9M333 missile works on the principle of "shot-forgot", that is, it will find and destroy the designated target itself. For the homing head, there are three modes of operation-photo contrast, infrared and interference. As previously reported, the warhead has a mass of five kilograms (instead of three on the 9M37 SAM), and the length is increased to 2.23 meters. The probability of hitting targets is also increased by increasing the explosive charge, length and cross-section of the striking elements.
The main targets of the missile defense system are low-flying aircraft and helicopters, as well as drones and cruise missiles.
