washington. December 23. INTERFAX-Russia calls on the United States to use the time remaining until February 5 and extend the Treaty on measures for further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms (STCW) for the benefit of the two countries and the world, the Russian Embassy in the United States said in a statement on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the ratification of the document by the us Senate.
"We call on the United States to use what remains until February 5, 2021, to preserve the new Treaty for the benefit of our two countries and the world," the statement said on the diplomatic mission's Facebook page.
"Today, the new Treaty is the latest bilateral agreement that verifiably and transparently restricts the world's two largest nuclear arsenals. Since the entry into force on February 5, 2011, the total number of warheads covered by the Treaty has been reduced by a third, and the number of deliverers by more than half," the Embassy said in a statement.
It is noted that the Treaty " plays an important role in strengthening mutual transparency and predictability."
"As of December 2020, Russian and American brigades conducted 328 inspections on the basis of missiles, submarines and bombers. The two sides also exchanged more than 21,000 notifications on the status of their strategic offensive weapons," the diplomats said.
