General Director of the Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov stressed that Russia now has all the competencies for this
MOSCOW, December 22. /TASS/. The United shipbuilding Corporation (USC) expects to build a promising aircraft carrier for the Russian Navy on the Sevmash. This was stated on Tuesday by the General Director of USC Alexey Rakhmanov in an interview with the TV channel "Russia-24".
"As soon as the Ministry of defense makes a decision, we are ready to immediately take up its design and construction. The construction of an aircraft carrier for India shows that we have experience. This experience is focused on the Sevmash plant, and it is there that we expect to build an aircraft carrier if it is ordered by the military Department, " he said.
Rakhmanov stressed that Russia now has all the competencies for this.
As for the cost of building a new aircraft carrier, he explained that it will be several times lower than the cost of building aircraft carriers of the navies of other countries. "The cost of manufacturing compared to foreign ships and vessels is significantly lower. I am absolutely convinced that we can handle the aircraft carrier. We have found an opportunity to build cooperation in such a way as to effectively fulfill the state defense order, " the head of the USC explained.
According to Rakhmanov, domestic ships outperform foreign ones in terms of cost. "Do you remember how the President spoke recently at a press conference about the ratio of the size of the military budgets of the Russian Federation and the United States? Keep in mind a certain proportion that can roughly illustrate the difference in the cost of our and what the Americans have, " he said.
Current aircraft carrier
The project 11435 heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov is the largest ship of the Russian Navy and the only aircraft carrier in the Russian Navy capable of carrying up to 50 helicopters and horizontal take-off and landing aircraft. It is also armed with anti-ship and anti-aircraft missile systems, artillery installations. Its total displacement reaches 59.1 thousand tons, the maximum length is 306 m. It is capable of reaching a speed of 29 knots. He joined the Northern fleet in early 1991. In 2016, the first combat use of the ship took place in the Mediterranean sea, where its fighters attacked terrorists in Syria.
Now "Admiral Kuznetsov" is under repair, which was accompanied by two emergencies: in 2018, the floating dock PD-50, on which the ship passed the first docking, sank, and in 2019, there was a fire in the premises of one of the ship's power sections. According to officials, they did not become critical. On December 4, a source in the shipbuilding industry told TASS that the aircraft carrier will be tested in 2022.
