During the year, the Russian troops conducted more than 5,700 exercises and trainings of various levels, during which they showed high combat readiness, the ability to effectively work out complex, non-standard tasks. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday at an expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of defense.
"During the year, the high combat readiness of the troops, the ability to effectively work out complex, non-standard tasks were demonstrated during more than 5,700 exercises and trainings of various levels, including the large-scale exercise "Caucasus - 2020" with the participation of military contingents of five foreign countries," he said.
Putin drew attention to the fact that Russian servicemen are acting responsibly and courageously in Syria. "In fact, their daily work is the most important factor of stability on Syrian soil and in the region as a whole," he said.
The head of state also recalled that since November 10, Russian peacekeepers have started their mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. "Their presence has become a guarantee of compliance with the agreements on the cessation of hostilities," he stressed.
Putin noted that peacekeepers are doing a lot to improve the humanitarian situation and help refugees, mine the territory and restore social infrastructure, save cultural, historical and religious monuments. "They risk themselves, unfortunately, not without losses," the Russian President said. "They risk their lives so that peaceful life can return to this land."
