MOSCOW, December 21. /TASS/. The military base on the island of Alexandra Land of the Franz Josef Land archipelago is fully built and equipped. This was stated by the head of the Russian Defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu during an extended meeting of the board of the Russian military department.
"On the island of Alexandra Land, the construction of a military base has been completely completed. This is the only object in the world at 80 degrees north latitude, " Shoigu said on Monday.
According to him, 334 buildings and structures were built on the base. "The runway at the Nagurskaya airfield has been increased to 3.5 km," he said.
In addition, objects of the second stage of the military camp for 300 military personnel of the air defense unit have been put into operation in Tiksi, Shoigu said.
