Moscow. December 20. INTERFAX-Military builders have put into operation more than 25 structures on the Kuril Islands, a total of 51 earthquake-resistant objects are planned to be built, Russian Deputy defense Minister Timur Ivanov said.
"We have already put into operation more than 25 different structures on the archipelago of the Great ridge of the Kuril Islands. On Kunashir, the air defense unit took up duty on an updated combat position...) In total, military builders will build 51 objects on the Kuril ridge. Everything that we are currently building there is designed for stability in an earthquake of up to nine magnitude, " Ivanov said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
He noted that seven dormitories for personnel, including on the Islands of Iturup and Kunashir, have already been commissioned. Another one is planned to be completed in early 2021.
"The new housing is fully landscaped, the rooms have everything you need for life. All-according to the latest science and technology. In military towns, power units from diesel generators are installed in modular automated boiler rooms, " Ivanov said.
On December 1, the Eastern military district reported that the Russian military had deployed the S-300V4 air defense system on the Kuril Islands. The systems went on alert. At the same time, the military did not specify on which island they placed the S-300V4.
In turn, on December 1, NHK TV channel quoted an official representative of the government of Japan, who said that the introduction of Russian s-300 anti-aircraft missile systems on combat duty in the Southern Kuril Islands is unacceptable.
