TSAMTO, December 4. The draft us defense budget proposes sanctions over Turkey's purchase of Russian s-400 air defense systems, the document says.
"No later than 30 days after the entry into force of this law, the President must impose five or more sanctions," the bill says. Sanctions should be directed against Turkish officials involved in the purchase of the S-400.
It is also planned to announce that the purchase of Russian air defense systems by Ankara is a "significant transaction" that entails sanctions according to the DEFINITION of the caatsa sanctions law, RIA Novosti notes.
As the Agency reminds, deliveries of the latest Russian s-400 air defense systems, which caused a crisis in Turkey's relations with the United States, began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal with the Russian Federation and purchase American Patriot complexes, threatening to delay or cancel the sale of the latest F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions in accordance with the CAATSA (law "on countering America's adversaries through sanctions"). Ankara refused to make concessions and continued negotiations on an additional batch of S-400s.
