For the first time, China has become a leader in patents in the field of artificial intelligence. This was stated by the Deputy head of the Chinese Academy of cyberspace research Li Yuxiao at the WIC (World Internet Conference).
He cited data showing that in 2019, Chinese companies and inventors around the world filed more than 110,000 applications for registration of patents related to AI technologies. In previous years, the US held the lead in this direction. It is not specified how many applications for AI patents were received from the United States in 2019.
"China is strengthening its independence and technological capabilities in the field of information technology," Li Yuxiao said.
Iimedia experts ' estimates show that the most active use of artificial intelligence technologies in China is in the areas of video surveillance, the financial sector, marketing and transport.
Li Yuxiao says that the development of the it industry in China has always adhered to the concept of "people-oriented", which allowed the population to use visible, affordable and easy-to-use services in various industries, especially in the fields of education, health and culture.
At the same time, according to the South China Morning Post, China, which is going to become a world leader in artificial intelligence by 2030, will still need to solve some problems, in particular the vagueness of scenarios for the use of AI technologies, high investment, as well as security and ethics issues.
The Ministry of industry and Informatization of the people's Republic of China has identified 17 priority areas for the development of AI and called on Chinese technology companies and research institutes to participate in the so-called national team to achieve technological breakthroughs. Here they will try to repeat the approach that proved itself when creating the national telecommunications industry : the best of the best are selected from a very large number of participants in several stages, and industry leaders are grown from them. The Ministry is expected to select no more than three companies in each of these areas and offer them "greater support and promotion".
"Artificial intelligence is the new driving force of the technological revolution and transformation. We need to step up efforts in the development of next-generation artificial intelligence technologies to give a boost to the country's high-quality economic growth, " said Chinese leader XI Jinping.
