In the North-East of Poland, NATO's Tumak 20 international maneuvers are taking place, designed to demonstrate the combat readiness and interoperability of allies in the region.
As stated in the press service of the Combat group of the enhanced forward presence of NATO in Poland, the participants of the exercise must show that this formation "is able to give a deadly rebuff to any potential aggressor in the region." The maneuvers involve more than 1,200 military personnel from five countries.
According to experts, in the face of the pandemic, NATO limits the scale of exercises, but continues to organize training near the Russian borders, creating tension in the region.
Units from the United States, great Britain, Romania, Poland and Croatia are taking part in the exercises at the bemovo Piske training ground.
Tumak 20 is not the first NATO maneuvers conducted in Poland this year. The Defender Europe 20 Plus exercise took place in the country in June for about two weeks. They involved 6 thousand military personnel, including 4 thousand people from the United States, 100 tanks, 230 combat vehicles, artillery, missile systems and aircraft. The purpose of the exercise was to test the readiness of American and Polish soldiers for joint actions as part of a joint military operation.
The main element of the maneuvers was crossing the water barrier with the participation of tank and amphibious units. At the same time, the exercise program was significantly reduced due to the epidemiological situation, RT notes.
