TSAMTO, November 20. On November 11, the German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) announced the naming and launching ceremony of the fourth and last of the four Type-209/1400mod-class submarines ordered by the Egyptian Navy on September 29 at the Kiel plant.
The commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Navy, Vice Admiral Ahmed Khaled Hassan said, who was present at the event, officially assigned the submarine the designation "S44". The submarine is expected to be delivered to the Egyptian Navy in 2021.
As reported by TSAMTO, the basic agreement for the construction of Type-209/1400mod submarines for the Egyptian Navy was signed with TKMS on December 12, 2011. The sale price was not officially disclosed, however, according to media reports, the contract for the supply of two napl with an option to build two more is estimated at 920 million euros ($1.006 billion). The option to build a second pair of submarines was implemented in 2015.
The ceremony of handing over to the customer the main series of DPLs, designated S41, took place at the enterprise in Kiel on December 12, 2016. To the RAS El-tin naval base (Alexandria) it arrived on April 19, 2017. The second dapl arrived in Egypt in October 2017, and the third in may 2020.
The length of the Type 1400/209mod submarine for the Egyptian Navy is 62 m, width-6.2 m, surface / underwater displacement-about 1450/1594 tons, maximum speed in the underwater position-21.5 knots, cruising range-11 thousand nautical miles, crew-30 people. The dapl can dive to a maximum depth of 250 m. The submarine's armament includes the UGM-84 Harpoon RCC, sea mines, and eight DM2A4 torpedo tubes (14 in total).
