The British company Rolls-Royce will conduct the first bench tests of the UltraFan aircraft engine running on biofuels.
During the tests, the engine will be fed undiluted biofuel, which, according to the developer, can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 75 percent compared to conventional jet fuel, the company said.
Aviation biofuels manufactured by the American company World Energy will be used for testing the UltraFan aircraft engine. The purpose of the tests will be to confirm the performance of a promising aviation installation on undiluted biofuel. Other details of the upcoming engine tests have not yet been revealed.
According to the project, the UltraFan engine with an ultra-high degree of dual-circuit will consume at least 25 percent less fuel than the Trent family of aircraft installed on modern aircraft. The degree of dual circuit power plant will be 15:1. the UltraFan engine gas Generator will provide a compression ratio of 70: 1.
UNIAN notes that the distinctive feature of UltraFan will be the complete absence of a low-pressure turbine, although in General the design will allow its installation if the customer needs to drive additional attachments. In addition, the power plant will receive a fully composite fan with variable pitch.
