TSAMTO, November 10. As part of the strategic defense cooperation with the United States, the Greek Navy command proposed to conclude a transnational agreement on the purchase of multi-purpose frigates MMSC (Multi-Mission Surface Combatant) of American construction to modernize its surface fleet.
According to exclusive information received by the Greek resource Kathimerini, the proposal fully meets the strategic goals stated by the Greek government and is positively evaluated by the American side, which seeks to expand military-industrial cooperation with Greece.
Among the main provisions of the proposed intergovernmental agreement is the implementation of a comprehensive solution that includes the delivery of four MMSC frigates, the modernization of four existing MEKO-class frigates, auxiliary ships, and the participation of Greek shipbuilding companies in the development of the promising American frigate FFG (X).
The plan, in essence, provides for the creation of the Greek Navy by 2030, which, in combination with the delivery of MH-60R anti-submarine helicopters, will be equipped on the American model.
As reported by TSAMTO, the MMSC multi-purpose surface warship was designed by Lockheed Martin Corporation on the basis of a freedom-class coastal warship for the Saudi Navy. It is designed to deal with surface, underwater and air targets, small-sized combat boats. The Navy of Saudi Arabia has ordered four ships of the MMSC.
