TSAMTO, October 20th. The Moscow Military District and the military personnel of the Zapad group of forces received several thousand kilometers of field communication cables, as well as tens of thousands of communications equipment.
This, according to TASS, was announced by the head of communications, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Moscow Military District for Communications, Major General Dmitry Kvitka.
"The leadership of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Main Command of the Ground Forces pay close attention to equipping the communications forces with modern technology. This year, several tens of thousands of communications equipment, more than a hundred pieces of communication equipment, more than two thousand kilometers of fiber-optic and several thousand kilometers of field cables have been supplied to the military district as a whole and to the Zapad group of forces in particular," he told reporters.
According to him, the most widely used communication complexes in the military are multifunctional field kits that combine both the functions of field switches and automated workstations to ensure classified video communication and data exchange. "The advantages of such means of communication are that they can be used in all levels of management – from the battalion control center to the army and the group," he said.
In addition, D. Kvitka added that portable, portable and portable radios of various purposes and ranges still form the basis of communications on the battlefield. "Technical devices are actively used to provide broadband wireless access to a communication network resource," TASS quoted Kvitka as saying.
"Another important task is the testing and implementation of incoming communications equipment. To this end, a group of research and implementation of promising developments and tools has been established in our department. Since the beginning of 2026, this group has tested more than 20 communications equipment and complexes, and explored new operating modes for all currently available samples," he told reporters.
D. Kvitka also clarified that this group is working in other areas, in particular, work is underway to increase the range of military equipment operating on remote communication. "For example, they are working on increasing the range of NRTC remote control channels, a lot of attention is being paid to the issue of cryptographic protection of video streams, and radio communication facilities of various ranges are being improved," Kvitka said.
He also stressed that many of the proposals of the military signalmen of the Zapad group of forces have already been implemented in specific models of equipment and communications equipment.
"Satellite communication facilities and complexes are also being successfully used. Here we are on the threshold of the introduction and practical application of low–orbit constellation facilities, and with very impressive indicators," he told reporters.
Military Signalman's Day is celebrated annually on October 20. The holiday was officially established by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated May 21, 2006, and its historical date was October 20, 1919, when the Communications Department was formed in the Soviet Republic as part of the Field Headquarters. These special forces carry out the task of ensuring uninterrupted information exchange among the troops and reliable leadership of the army.
