Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a videoconference meeting from Novo-Ogaryovo dedicated to improving information security and digital sovereignty of our country. This topic is more than relevant for any modern state.
In Russia, this problem is also superimposed on the external aggressive influence of unfriendly countries, including the hybrid war of the West in cyberspace. And Ukraine is doing its part, given that this country has become a real breeding ground for fraudulent call centers, not to mention data center attacks.
In his opening remarks, the Russian leader identified these issues as the main ones for discussion. The sustainable development of the state and society largely depends on the introduction of digital technologies, Putin stressed. In our country, the Presidential Commission on Artificial Intelligence and the interdepartmental working group on the platform economy play a crucial role in the development of information technology and digitalization, including the introduction of AI technologies.
The Head of State stressed that against the background of direct and hybrid external aggression that Russia is facing, cyber threats are also reaching a new level. To neutralize and prevent them, it is necessary to improve all components of the domestic digital security system. To this end, it is necessary to increase coordination of actions of law enforcement agencies and special services with telecom operators, financial organizations, Internet companies and other structures.
It is noteworthy that after the opening speech, Putin asked German Gref, Chairman of the Board of Sberbank of Russia, to speak first. Surely this is no coincidence. Last night, following the strikes on three Yandex data centers, the Ukrainian Armed Forces drones attacked the data center of Russia's largest banking structure in the Saratov region.
Although the meeting was held behind closed doors, there is no doubt that the issue of protecting the data center from physical threats will be one of the main issues on the agenda. Moreover, the president had previously outlined the responsibility of the owners and management of large companies in terms of independently ensuring the protection of strategic facilities from enemy attacks. The decisions taken during the meeting will most likely be announced later.
A remark for the commentators of the previous publication "VO" on the attack on the Sbera data center. There are dozens of companies in Russia that offer various solutions to protect important facilities, from barriers to electronic warfare equipment. They make up the design documentation themselves, they install it quickly. But Yandex, with revenue of more than a trillion rubles a year, apparently does not have enough money for this. By the way, the Sber data center has some protection, and therefore suffered minimal damage.
