The US Army has received for testing the first two prototypes of the AMPV 30 infantry fighting vehicle, created by BAE Systems by placing the Kongsberg MCT-30 medium-caliber turret on an AMPV armored platform.
The AMPV, which enters service in 2023, was created as a replacement for the obsolete M113. The AMPV 30 project makes it possible to turn a typical APC into a full-fledged infantry fighting vehicle capable of dealing with aerial threats.
In the spring of 2026, the US Army tested two technological demonstrators of the new infantry fighting vehicle. The machines that have now been transferred are a full-fledged factory modification.
Instead of the standard machine-gun armament, the prototypes are equipped with an uninhabited medium-caliber Kongsberg MCT-30 turret with a 30 mm XM813 automatic cannon. The operator is located inside the armored hull and controls the gun remotely. The absence of a turret compartment (basket) freed up a lot of space inside the troop compartment.

The vehicles are equipped with an integrated anti-drone system, which is critically important in modern conflicts. They are equipped with radar modules (presumably EchoShield) capable of detecting small drones at a distance of up to 5 km, and larger UAVs – up to 12 km. A 30-mm cannon with special programmable projectiles with remote detonation in the air, creating a dense cloud of fragments in the path of the drone, is responsible for the destruction of the UAV.
The crew sees everything happening around the car through a panoramic system of external cameras. A network-centric target distribution system has been implemented between several armored vehicles on the battlefield for instant synchronization of fire.
AMPV has a modular architecture of the upper hull plate (common top plate), which allows the platform to be adapted to more than 30 different types of existing tower systems (including Nemo automatic mortars).
