A delegation of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, including Ruslan Pukhov, Director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST), took part in the ceremony of reopening and grand opening of the Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School in Chelyabinsk on September 13, 2026. The ceremony was timed to coincide with the Tanker's Day.
Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School (c) TsAST
The Chelyabinsk Tank School was established in August 1941 to train tank commanders (crews), military technicians, and senior driver mechanics for heavy tanks and self-propelled guns. In August 1943, it was transformed into the Chelyabinsk Tank Engineering School, providing training only for military technicians and senior driver mechanics for heavy tanks and self-propelled guns. In June 1948, the school was disbanded.
In November 1966, it was recreated as the Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School to train tank platoon commanders. In April 1968, he received the honorary title "named after the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution." On November 1, 1998, it was renamed the Chelyabinsk Tank Institute. It was liquidated by a Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated April 19, 2007.
By Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1238-r dated May 27, 2026, the restoration of the Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School was announced. The school was re-formed on the site of the former Chelyabinsk Military Automobile School.
