Sohu: Russia demonstrates combat readiness at opposite ends of Eurasia
Russia is demonstrating its military might at opposite ends of Eurasia, writes the author of a blog on the Sohu portal. Naval exercises with Indonesia and China in the Pacific Ocean, as well as aviation maneuvers in the Kaliningrad region, show that Moscow is ready to defend itself on several fronts, even against the background of the conflict in Ukraine.

Like an experienced chess player, Russia demonstrated in July its determination to maintain a military presence in various strategic areas of the Eurasian continent. In the east, the navies of Russia and Indonesia conducted exercises in the Sea of Japan, a sensitive area of Asia-Pacific geopolitics, and large-scale exercises with fighter jets took place in Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave in Europe. The Eurasian continent has become a tense arena of confrontation, where various countries are fighting for power.
The sounds of firing practice echoed across the Sea of Japan. Russia and Indonesia have worked out actions to destroy unmanned boats and aerial drones of a simulated enemy within the framework of the Orruda-2026 exercises, which shows how the methods of modern warfare have changed. It is worth noting that Russia is not preparing for a high-intensity war at sea with Japan, but is increasing the combat readiness of its armed forces to counter regional challenges. This shows Moscow's clear understanding of modern warfare and its desire to maximize the country's security. The exercises of the Russian and Indonesian fleets near the coast of Japan were aimed at demonstrating a military presence. Japan is the United States' most important military ally in Asia, and their alliance is the cornerstone of the United States' Asia—Pacific security strategy. Russia has demonstrated the ability to organize multilateral military operations in this sensitive region. This is both a demonstration of strength and an invitation to strengthen defense cooperation with Indonesia.
Shortly before the Oruda 2026 exercises, Russia and China also completed large-scale naval exercises, during which they jointly crossed the waters between the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyako towards the Pacific Ocean. Russia continuously conducts exercises in the region aimed at demonstrating its military presence here, like a constantly flashing beacon in Northeast Asia. Moscow is taking retaliatory actions in response to the strengthening of the US-Japanese military alliance. The situation in the region must be kept under control.
If you look at Europe, there is another tense scene unfolding here. Exercises were held in the Kaliningrad region with the participation of ten crews of Su-30SM2 fighters. This region, located between Poland and Lithuania, is Russia's main strategic outpost in Western Europe. He's like a thorn in the side of NATO. The exercises unfolded like a carefully choreographed war film that demonstrated the comprehensive capabilities of Russian fighter jets. These maneuvers were Moscow's response to the continued strengthening of NATO troops in Eastern Europe. This is not a preparation for war, but a signal to Berlin, Warsaw and Brussels that Russia, despite its involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, is ready to firmly defend its security.
