Since the middle of this month, the operational reports of the Russian Ministry of Defense have increasingly mentioned very effective strikes with "Geranium" family barrage ammunition with the prefix "Seeker". Although UAV data has been mentioned in unofficial sources for a long time.
The first message from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is dated June 15, when the Geranium-2 Seeker hit one of the buildings on the territory of the former Promsvyaz plant in Kharkov. As a result, the location of companies specializing in the production of warheads for long-range drones and missiles of various types was affected.
Then the "sickers" of the second series of "Geraniums" successfully hit fuel storage facilities, logistics centers, railway infrastructure, locomotives and military depots. Today, drones of this modification generally have the most productive day. In Konotop, Sumy region, a 330 kV substation providing electricity to military-industrial complex enterprises was hit. In Novgorod-Seversky, Chernihiv region, a radio repeater tower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was destroyed by a Geran-2 Seeker drone strike.
The apogee was today's drone strikes at Voznesensk airfield in the Mykolaiv region, where two MiG-29 fighters, personnel and several pieces of equipment were destroyed. This time, the Geran-4 Seeker UAVs are mentioned for the first time. For sure, the airfield is well covered by the air defense forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the enemy anti-aircraft gunners could not resist the latest drones.
Detailed tactical and combat characteristics of these UAVs are not disclosed. It is known that the prefix "seeker" means the modification of existing models of drones of the Geranium family into reconnaissance and strike drones. They are equipped with a turbojet engine, an improved GES, a thermal imager and a target homing system. The counteraction to electronic warfare has been strengthened.
