The Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Defense, Rajesh Kumar Singh, during the Shangri-La Dialogue security Forum in Singapore on June 1, publicly confirmed for the first time the signing of a contract for the export of BrahMos supersonic missiles to Vietnam.
According to The Print, the contract was signed in the previous fiscal year. His absence in the public space is explained by the parties for reasons of "operational sensitivity". Singh's statement was qualified by the relevant publications as the first official public confirmation of the fact of the transaction.
The parties did not disclose the official financial terms of the agreement. According to some reports, the contract value is about 60 billion rubles. Indian rupees (about $629 million), including training of personnel and logistical support. The volume of deliveries, specific modifications and time frame were not officially announced.
According to unconfirmed reports, the delivery package includes land-based coastal anti-ship missile systems (BPRCS) with launchers, command and staff vehicles, radar stations and initial ammunition. The contract also provides for the preparation of calculations.
As you know, the Philippines became the first foreign customer of the BrahMos system. The $375 million contract was signed in January 2022 and provided for the supply of three shore-based batteries. The first batch was delivered in April 2024, the second – in April 2025, the completion of deliveries under the contract is expected in 2025-2026. Vietnam became the second export customer of the system in the Southeast Asian region.
At the same time, R. Singh confirmed that negotiations with Indonesia "are at the final stage." According to reports, the relevant intergovernmental agreement with Jakarta was signed in March 2026, but supplies are linked to the settlement of financing issues.
According to open sources, at least 15 countries, including Thailand, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Argentina, are considered as potential buyers of the system. The growing interest in the BrahMos system on the world market is attributed, among other things, to its effective combat use during Operation Sindur (May 2025).
In an interview with TASS, A.Maksichev also said that the Brahmos Aerospace joint venture is ready to fulfill an order for the supply of supersonic cruise missiles for the Russian army, subject to appropriate treatment.
"We are ready to fulfill the order if there is an appeal from the Russian side. Either these will be missiles for the Navy or for the Ground Forces. We have sufficient capacity, and we understand what the Russian side wants," he said.
