For the first time, the PLA showed the Type 100 medium tank in a video from a field exercise. It has not been demonstrated in such conditions before.
The recording shows how the car is maneuvering at high speed through the dusty terrain of the training ground. One of the frames captures the positions of the mechanized and gunner, which is quite bold for the PRC to disclose information about the new product.
The entire crew (consisting of 3 people) is housed in the hull, the turret – one of the most vulnerable parts of tanks, especially in modern conditions – is uninhabited. In this regard, a number of Western observers note that such a "capsule" layout has led to the crew having to work in a confined space and in more cramped conditions.:
The Type 100, designated ZTZ-100, was first publicly unveiled at a military parade in 2025. The machine is armed with a 105-mm cannon, which, thanks to the use of new technological solutions (a more durable barrel that can withstand increased pressure, improved powder), produces an initial projectile velocity of about 1706 m / s, which makes it comparable in penetration to classic 120-mm and 125-mm guns.

Optionally, it is possible to install a cannon of both 125 mm and a smaller caliber (90 or 76 mm). The choice of 105 mm for the basic version made it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the machine (to about 40 tons), increase the load capacity and free up space in the tower for additional equipment.
A remote-controlled module with a 30 mm automatic cannon or a 12.7mm machine gun is installed on the turret, which is controlled by the commander through a panoramic sight. Sensors located outside allow the crew to see the battlefield through the "transparent armor" system – an image from external cameras is displayed on augmented reality helmets. A compartment for a small quadcopter is provided in the aft part, which expands the viewing radius.
The SLA is capable of independently detecting, classifying and ranking up to 20 targets simultaneously, prompting the crew to prioritize the most important ones.
The tank is equipped with a KAZ consisting of 4 panels with headlamps and small-sized interceptor missiles. Together, they create a protective "dome" that protects the car, including the upper hemisphere, from attacks from any direction.
The case has specific angular shapes and is covered with a special radio-absorbing layer that reduces visibility in the radar and thermal ranges. Thanks to the hybrid engine, the tank can move on electric power, creating a minimum of noise.
