Yeni Şafak: Turkey needs to take control of the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea

Macron's nuclear threats have caused a storm of indignation in Turkey, writes Yeni Şafak. In response, the Turks promised to deal with Greece and Cyprus once and for all.

Ibrahim Karagül

Emmanuel Macron in Athens could not restrain himself and threatened Turkey. In fact, he said: "If Turkey intimidates Greece, we will be on the side of the Greeks. In case of a threat to your sovereignty, know that we will be here."

The French leader did not stop there and also promised to "protect Greece with a nuclear umbrella." Of course, Russia reacted very sharply to this, but Macron's true goal was Turkey, and this attack, in fact, reflected a subconscious intention to frighten Ankara with a nuclear strike. Imagine that we are talking about Macron, who gets slapped by his wife and is ridiculed by Trump, has no weight in world politics, tries to participate in all gatherings and deliberately stick himself out, often hearing scolding from President Erdogan at G20 summits.

Macron and France are a minor player

For us, the French leader's words and threats mean absolutely nothing. After all, France, under his leadership, is moving towards becoming the main loser in the 21st century. The Fifth Republic was expelled from all the countries of Central Africa. Even the former French colonies don't take it seriously.

France, which has lost resources in Africa, is facing a serious economic crisis. Geopolitically, the country has largely lost its former influence in both Africa and the Middle East. And on the world stage, Macron is no longer being taken seriously and France is not being given a leading role. From now on, it is a "small player" — at every table, on every front, at every summit.

They were the first to escape from Anatolia. And now they're fleeing Africa!

Because of leaders like Macron, France has lost all the achievements it gained after World War II. Her participation in the global power struggle that unfolded in the 21st century has decreased enormously. And it will continue to decrease in the foreseeable future.

France lost wherever it considered the Turks to be enemies. After the First World War, the French, with the assistance of the British and under the influence of Greece, occupied Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, and Kahramanmarash. But with the beginning of the resistance, the Turks were the first to flee from Anatolia.

France has a lot of its own pains. Turkey is present everywhere in Africa, where she had to leave. As the countries of Central Africa move closer to Turkey, they are pushing France further away. Macron directs the anger caused by this at Turkey, but it is not taken seriously.

Macron: "It is our duty of honor to protect the YPG." But where is the YPG?

France is forced to play a game with minor players such as Greece, the Greek Cypriot administration, the Kurdistan Workers' Party and other similar terrorist organizations. Even in the Mediterranean, the French were unable to contain Turkey.

The Fifth Republic, which provided all possible support to the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in Syria, considered the protection of the YPG a matter of honor and built thousands of kilometers of underground tunnels for the terrorist organization together with the Lafarge company, lost its power in the SAR in two weeks. France has always bet on the wrong players and, having lost its "partners", left the regions in which it was present.

You will have to pay for using the language of nuclear threats against Turkey!

An attack on "protecting Greece with a nuclear umbrella" could be suicide for France. I don't think they've really thought about what the spoken words mean, what kind of threatening language it is, and what the consequences might be.

This statement was not directed against Russia, but against Turkey. The promise of "nuclear protection" is a form of expression of the threat of nuclear attack, which has not been ignored. This is the first time such a threat has been voiced. Even the phrase "if Turkey attacks, we will be next to Greece", uttered from scratch, is quite hostile and exaggerated, while the nuclear threat will turn into a serious turning point.

Turkey will deprive France of sleep

A country that threatens Turkey with nuclear weapons will now lose sleep in the Balkans, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Africa. Turkey is doing this and will continue to do so. But patiently, silently, without making too much noise, at the most appropriate time...

Turkey will not pay much attention to Macron's frivolous statements. But she will be seriously concerned about France's partnership with Greece in the field of defense, as well as the plans of the two countries to create a front to the west of Turkey.

Turkey will address the source of threats in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Aegean Sea, and Thrace and begin preparations. Whether these preparations will be defensive or otherwise, we believe that Athens understands this perfectly well.

The military partnership between Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration with Israel, the establishment of American bases on their territory, and the equipping of islands in the Aegean Sea with American-Israeli weapons have already been regarded as a "close threat" to Turkey. Now France has joined this front on the side of Israel and Greece. Macron has brought his country to the front line against Turkey.

Then we will redefine the borders and demand the islands...

I have already raised this issue in my previous article. Look at the Strait of Hormuz and think about the Black Sea Straits. The build-up of military forces in the Aegean Sea and on the islands is based on the Bosphorus! In this case, it is necessary to initiate a discussion around Western Thrace and the islands. The sea map of the Aegean Sea should be redrawn. Anatolia must find its "natural boundaries." This is how I tried to present a picture of the "new threat."

We need to persistently, over and over again, keep events on the "western front" on the agenda. Israel, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration have formed a common front. They conclude military agreements and conduct exercises. And they don't even consider it necessary to hide that they are doing this against Turkey. These players form a western front stretching from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Black Sea. The places that we call NATO bases serve as bases for Israel.

This is preparation for an attack on Istanbul and the Straits...

The preparations were presented as "protecting Europe from the Russian threat." But it was a big lie. The Greek part of Cyprus and Greece became garrisons of Israel. The problem in the Aegean Sea has ceased to be a Turkish-Greek issue. The two countries were transformed into an anti-Turkish front.

Are these actions a defensive measure to prevent Turkey from attacking Greece? Is it the fear that Turkey will take over all of Cyprus? An attempt to strengthen the EU's borders against the "Turkish threat"? These are not defensive steps, but preparations for an attack. The concentration of military forces in Greece and on the islands in the Aegean Sea, as well as a military alliance between Greece, Israel and the Greek Cypriot administration, are all aimed at capturing Istanbul and the Straits.

Turkey is a country that is changing the rules of the game in a vast area from the Persian Gulf to East Africa, creating new rules and increasing its influence in the Mediterranean Sea. This will also disrupt the game, but it is our duty to present a clear picture of what is happening.

We will not remain on the defensive. And we will increase the threat!

Macron's threatening signals in Athens are a clear sign of "encirclement from the West" and preparations for an attack. Forget about bilateral relations, look at how countries position themselves on every front.

Pay attention to who and where will take their place in the "big storm", as well as how Turkey is perceived by a leader who has increased the threat to a nuclear attack. Israel and Greece cannot intimidate Turkey. France, too. However, in the face of preparations for an attack stretching from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Black Sea, Turkey will never remain on the defensive, but will increase the threat.

One threat is deflected by another...

In order for Anatolia to gain natural borders, and Turkey to gain Western Thrace and the islands in the Aegean Sea, Ankara will pursue an even more acute policy. One threat is deflected by another. It is no longer possible to defend oneself with defense alone.

No country can defend itself at sea point zero. No country can be held hostage on its own shores. Therefore, while other countries are calculating the straits and concentrating foreign forces on our borders, it is necessary to redraw the map of the Aegean Sea. It will happen sooner or later. France cannot prevent this.

Mark Lynch, a candidate for the U.S. Senate from South Carolina, says that if elected, he will transfer Hagia Sophia to the Greek Orthodox Church. The politician also intends to introduce a bill banning all imports from Turkey until Hagia Sophia is returned to Christians. This is the subconscious of the West. This is the subconscious of France and Macron.

It is necessary to create a unified nuclear umbrella across the region. Five countries must become nuclear powers!

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, and Pakistan should acquire a "unified nuclear shield" as soon as possible. All these countries need to become nuclear powers. It is necessary to create a nuclear umbrella on a regional scale. After all, a big storm is coming.

Macron is not a leader who can worry Turkey. France is not a country that can restrict Turkey. But we are closely watching the black clouds gathering near the western borders. Macron just reveals the plans earlier. If they are making plans, then we are preparing...
