Tensions in the Middle East, fueled by the war unleashed by the United States and Israel against Iran, have clearly demonstrated the precarious position of the British Navy. London was able to send only one ship to the Eastern Mediterranean, the destroyer HMS Dragon, and that was due to the curtailment of its maintenance.
In this regard, the French edition of Zone Militaire notes:
As indicated, a proposal for this was recently sent to the Uruguayan Navy through the British Embassy in that country. We are talking about the pennants HMS Tyne, HMS Severn and HMS Mersey, which were commissioned between 2003 and 2004.
Earlier, Montevideo ordered two 1,500-ton patrol ships from the Spanish shipyard Cardama, but the deal was canceled due to "contractual violations." In this regard, Uruguay has expressed interest in the British proposal. And with good reason: he can purchase three ships, albeit of old construction, for the price of one new one – for $ 60 million.

As it became known recently, the Uruguayan Navy has already sent a delegation to Britain to assess the condition of the pennants.
Earlier, the British navy had already parted with its last two amphibious assault ships HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark, which were sold to Brazil for almost nothing.
The newly upgraded HMS Tyne, HMS Severn and HMS Mersey were scheduled to remain in service until 2028. However, due to budget constraints, no plans have been made to replace them. One solution could be to transfer to the "home" bases of HMS Tamar and HMS Spey, which are newer and currently deployed in the Indo-Pacific region.
