Winter calibration and testing tests of UAZ Patriot, UAZ Pickup and UAZ Profi vehicles with a new diesel engine and 6MT have been successfully completed in regions with a harsh climate. The power unit showed a steady start at temperatures up to -30°C. This was reported by the company's press service last week.
The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant plans to launch production of UAZ cars with a new powertrain closer in 2026. The cars will receive a diesel engine in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission. The maximum engine power is 136 hp, maximum torque is 310 Nm, environmental class Euro-5.

The company is assembling 6-stage manual transmissions. Technological operations for casting and machining of crankcases have been localized. New presses have been put into operation to assemble the intermediate shaft. "The intermediate shaft is one of the key components of the manual transmission, which guarantees the reliability of the unit. Three new units of pressing equipment will ensure high precision of pressing the components of the intermediate shaft – synchronizers and gears, automate the technological process, which will positively affect the quality of gearboxes. The installations were purchased as part of an ongoing project to equip production facilities, with the support of the Industrial Development Fund. In the future, the localization of all the main parts of the manual transmission is considered. The total production volume for the project will be up to 50,000 units per year. The new manual transmission is installed on the Sollers light commercial vehicle range and UAZ vehicles.

The key task of the engineering team was to ensure the stable and correct functioning of all diesel engine and transmission systems in harsh cold conditions. Specialists adjusted the engine control unit, optimizing its parameters for negative temperatures. Special attention was paid to checking the operation of the turbocharger, catalytic converter and particulate filter, both in normal driving mode and during regeneration.
At the same time, engineers tuned the electronics of cars. Functions such as cruise control and the maximum speed limit system were calibrated at the test sites. The engineers performed a full calibration of the engine's operation at low temperatures. The turbocharger, the catalyst and the particulate filter withstood the cold test for a solid "five". Ahead is the completion of resource tests in 100,000 km of real operation, which employees started last year.
The debut of the updated models – diesel UAZ Patriot, Pickup truck and commercial van Profi – is expected in strict accordance with the schedule. The launch is scheduled for the end of the second and beginning of the third quarter of 2026.
Time will tell whether the new development will be of interest to law enforcement agencies. Surely some experienced batch of UAZs will put on "shoulder straps" and show themselves.
