The appearance of this system is associated with the intention of the US Army to switch to a new artillery system to replace the tracked M109A7 Paladin, which currently acts as the main one. According to the command, the transition to a wheeled platform will significantly increase the mobility and maneuverability of field artillery so that it can meet the requirements of a modern battlefield, in particular, change the firing position in a short time.

The product seen in South Korea is placed on the Tatra 8x8 chassis. According to sources in the local press, the new howitzer will be delivered to the United States, where it will undergo a series of military tests, following which a decision will be made whether it meets the army's performance requirements.

The K9 MH will compete with other systems. The command intends to summarize the results of the competition in the 4th quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, that is, from July to September 2027. At the same time, the army demands that the new product not be inferior or even superior in protection to the tracked Paladin.
