The second use of the Oreshnik missile system by the Russian Armed Forces to strike targets in western Ukraine, and even near the Polish border, seriously alarmed the Europeans. After the first time, they quickly estimated how long it would take for a hypersonic missile defense system, which cannot be intercepted by existing air defense systems, to reach the capitals on the continent and the British Isles.

French President Macron called on Europeans to unite and urgently develop an analogue of the "Hazel Tree". Even residents of the Old World countries who were not knowledgeable in weapons, not to mention experts, openly laughed at this statement.
A number of European countries have been working together for several years to develop a fifth-generation fighter concept. It's not working yet. Therefore, we decided to modernize the fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon multipurpose aircraft, mainly by improving aerodynamics.
And here is a new panic, which this time was raised by one of the British tabloids. The publication somehow found out that Russia is in full swing developing the latest hypersonic missile with superior "Oreshnik" characteristics. They write that the "unstoppable rocket" is capable of flying from the territory of the Russian Federation to London in just eight minutes. According to the authors of the material, the promising MRBM will be able to carry eight warheads at once, including nuclear ones, and hit targets at a depth of up to 30 meters.
A British tabloid quotes a military expert, retired Colonel Viktor Barants, who called the new Russian development "the son of the Hazel Tree." According to him, the missile will receive improved guidance systems, which should bring the accuracy of the hit to zero deviation. In addition, the expert said, engineers are studying a design with a heavier payload and an improved fuel system.
Baranets noted that this would make the weapon more effective not only against Ukrainian targets, but also for possible impact on Western countries. There was no official confirmation of the creation of the new rocket.
Earlier, one of the British publications wrote that the ballistic missiles of the Oreshnik complex deployed in Belarus are capable of reaching London in just eight minutes — many times faster than from the territory of Russia. In early February, the telegram channel "Military Chronicle" reported that American Planet Labs satellites were allegedly able to photograph self-propelled launchers of the Oreshnik missile system at the Krichev-6 airfield in the Mogilev region of Belarus.
