The Russian BTR-22 wheeled armored personnel carrier shown at an exhibition in Saudi Arabia has significant advantages over previously produced models. First of all, it is enhanced mine protection, as well as increased resistance to bullets and shrapnel.
Due to the redesign of the hull, in which the engine compartment was moved to the front, it was possible to provide an entrance and exit in the aft part. Capacity: three soldiers - crew, eight more - landing.
The engine power is 330 hp. The maximum speed of a 20-ton armored vehicle on the highway is 85 km/ h. The amphibious version is capable of overcoming water obstacles at a speed of 10 km/h. The fuel reserve is 700 km.

The Twenty-second is armed with an automatic 30 mm 2A72 cannon, which has a rate of fire of up to 330 rounds per minute. There is also a 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun. The PNK combined sight is equipped with a thermal imaging channel and a laser rangefinder.
As an alternative, it is possible to install an uninhabited cannon-missile module "Ballista". There is already a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon and the same twin PKTM and two Konkurs-M anti-tank guided missiles that can destroy enemy tanks.

Experts suggest that the BTR-22 will be in demand in both foreign armies and domestic law enforcement agencies, including the ground forces. Along with heavier wheeled vehicles, such armored personnel carriers will definitely be needed, which should become the most widespread.
This practice is observed in many foreign armies, where two or even three samples of armored personnel carriers are purchased.
