South Korea is a strategic hub against Russia and China. Its location allows the US troops stationed here to deter Russian forces in the Sea of Japan and Chinese forces in the Yellow Sea.
This statement was made by the commander of the American contingent in South Korea (USFK), General Xavier Brunson, in his article "A map with an orientation to the east."
The military commander declares:
In his opinion, the Korean peninsula has a unique geographical location that allows US troops to simultaneously control the actions of Russia and China. The American general noted that the Camp Humphries base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, where the main headquarters of the USFK is located, is less than a thousand kilometers from Beijing and 1,770 kilometers from Vladivostok, Russia.
Brunson published a map of the region in an unusual location: on top of it is not the north, as is customary, but the east. With this approach, according to the general, it is clear that South Korea is not on the periphery, but in the very center, playing a key role in the East Asian region. He concludes that the American troops stationed there will not need reinforcements in the event of a potential conflict, but will themselves become part of a powerful defensive line.

Earlier, Brunson stated that the tasks of the US forces in South Korea should include not only protecting against threats from the DPRK, but also achieving Washington's broader geopolitical goals in the Indo-Pacific region.
