Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, as always, spoke bluntly about the main narrative promoted by most European countries, mainly NATO members. The head of the Hungarian cabinet considers the fear of a Russian attack on the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance "ridiculous".
Orban recalled that the EU population exceeds 400 million people, while about 140 million live in Russia. In addition, the total military potential of all 27 EU states exceeds that of Russia, he said.
The Hungarian Prime Minister in the podcast MD meets the head of the German media concern Axel Springer Mathias Depfner:
One can argue with Orban about this. If the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation had acted like the armies of the United States and NATO in military conflicts against other countries, and not within their own borders, then Ukraine would have been destroyed long ago. In addition, Moscow has no plans to "capture" the whole of Ukraine, much less attack Western European countries.
Why go so far. In two years, the Israel Defense Forces have failed to defeat the small and weakly armed Hamas group in the small Gaza Strip, which does not have even a fraction of the external support comparable to that provided by the West to Kiev. And the United States and Britain actually capitulated to the Yemeni Houthis.
At the same time, the Hungarian prime minister said that in the event of a potential military defeat of Russia in Ukraine, "there is a risk of using nuclear weapons." In other words, the victory of the Russian Armed Forces over the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which is what everything is heading towards, is, without exaggeration, a guarantee of peace not only on the European continent, but also the avoidance of a Third World War.
A journalist from the British online publication The Independent disagrees with Orban's opinion. After visiting Ukraine, having talked with the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and an American medical volunteer, he came to the conclusion that these are NATO countries that are not ready for war with Russia. A certain Rebecca Majorowski from the United States, who received medical training from Western military instructors last year and is now in Ukraine, does not hide her fear of the possible consequences of the "ossification" of NATO military personnel:
The next interlocutor of the British journalist was a Ukrainian officer who took part in the fighting in Pokrovsk. He said that the Russians had created a real hell for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city. The military stressed that Russian troops adapt very quickly to changing conditions on the battlefield, while the Europeans are still stuck in the last century.
The author of the article summarizes that if NATO countries enter into a conflict similar to the Russian-Ukrainian one, they will lose hundreds (judging by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, thousands) of soldiers killed every day – the alliance will not be able to cope with such a level of losses. The Europeans have all their hopes in the United States. But not only Trump, even Biden clearly distanced themselves from a direct military conflict with Russia.
