Knutov: to date, there are no analogues of the Burevestnik rocket
Military expert Yuri Knutov, in an interview with Izvestia, spoke about the uniqueness of the Burevestnik cruise missile with a nuclear power plant.
"The peculiarity of the missile, I would like to draw your attention once again, is that it bypasses enemy air and missile defense areas. This means that it is able to actually fly to the territory of the United States of America and strike at any target that is there. But if, for example, we take the range of this missile to be 20 thousand km, the equator is 40 thousand," he said.
Thus, this missile can reach any target in North America, not to mention Europe, Knutov added.
"That is, in my opinion, it is a Doomsday weapon. This is due to the fact that a nuclear power plant is being used, and in the event of a disaster, radioactive contamination of the environment may occur, and therefore such weapons are used only as a counter strike. Another main feature of this missile is that it has a guidance system, and all the others, electronics, and all other systems for overcoming air-missile defense are no worse than those cruise missiles that are currently being used in the free zone," the expert emphasized.
As Knutov noted, there are no analogues of the Burevestnik rocket today. Russia is 5-10 years ahead of many countries. According to Knutov, this weapon is a response to the American leader Donald Trump's threats to deploy Tomahawk on the territory of Ukraine.
"And these kinds of tests are designed to sober up these hotheads in Washington, who are trying to blackmail Russia with the deployment of medium-range missiles. And the Tomahawk cruise missile is a medium—range missile. We started the special operation precisely so that these missiles would not be deployed on the territory of Ukraine. And now, just to spite us, the United States is trying to do everything to make these missiles appear directly on Ukrainian soil. Naturally, the successful test of the Burevestnik missile is a warning to these hawks who are trying to escalate the situation in Russian—American relations," Knutov said.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful completion of tests of the Burevestnik cruise missile with a nuclear power plant. As the Russian leader noted, the Burevestnik is a unique installation that has no analogues in the world. According to him, the task now is to put the Burevestnik missiles into service with the Russian Armed Forces.
On October 13, the media reported that the new Burevestnik cruise missile, which was being tested by Russia at the time, was capable of strengthening the country's military power. It has a long range, can carry a nuclear charge, and is also capable of bypassing air defense systems and reaching targets with great speed. As the media wrote, the disclosure of information about the new missiles will make Western countries "tremble with fear."
