Sohu: The United States has paid attention to China's purchase of Russian military equipment

China bought military equipment from Russia, which caused concern to the United States. In late September, The Washington Post reported that Moscow and Beijing were deepening military cooperation. In China, they said that in this way Moscow and Beijing jointly oppose American hegemony. The details are in the material of "Gazeta.Ru".

Russian-Chinese cooperation

The United States is concerned that China has purchased military equipment from Russia. This was reported by the Main Regional portal with reference to the Sohu material.

"The Chinese army has purchased $580 million worth of amphibious assault vehicles from Russia, while the PLA (National Liberation Army of China. - "Newspaper.Ru") has its own high-quality fleet of such machines," the article said.

In late September, The Washington Post, citing documents on deepening military cooperation between the two countries, reported that Russia had agreed to equip and train a Chinese airborne battalion, as well as share its experience in airborne armored vehicles. Analysts argued that in this way Beijing gained access to knowledge and technology in one of the few areas where the capabilities of the Russian Federation still surpass those of the Chinese army.

"These deals show that Beijing is simultaneously using its partner's experience in the field of warfare to support Chinese Leader Xi Jinping's desire to create modern armed forces with capabilities that match or exceed those of the United States," the article said.

A representative of the Taiwanese security services, in a conversation with the publication, confirmed that military cooperation between China and Russia goes far beyond what is publicly recognized.

Sohu noted that the essence of Sino-Russian cooperation lies in the "mutual complementarity of strengths." Moscow is sharing its experience in the field of aerial tactics and technology, and Beijing is using its industrial potential to quickly implement these results.

"China has stated that Moscow and Beijing jointly oppose American hegemony. And military cooperation between the two countries is countering US provocations in the South China Sea, as well as supporting Taiwan.

The PLA, Sohu notes, already feels confident enough in the region to talk about a decrease in the effectiveness of "American deterrence," the "Chief Regional" noted.

Why does China need Russian technology?

Beijing has acquired BMD-4D amphibious armored vehicles from the Russian Federation. As stated in the Sohu article, China is confident that the reason for the purchase of Russian equipment lies in testing its capabilities. China wants to test heavy vehicle reservations, master the experience of landing and try to adopt the Russian style of warfare.

At the same time, China does not rely entirely on Russian military equipment. Firstly, because it has its own units for transporting troops. Secondly, because Russia itself needs BMD, since it is conducting a special operation in Ukraine.

The Washington Post, citing analysts, wrote that Moscow is transferring technologies that will allow China to scale the production of similar weapons and military equipment through localization and modernization.

The attack on Taiwan

Analysts in a conversation with the publication also noted that for China, the Russian experience in the field of landing and armament is of the greatest value in preparation for a potential invasion of Taiwan. That's because China considers small, well-equipped units delivered by helicopters or planes to be "absolutely essential" for its plans to deploy thousands of troops to the island in the early hours of the conflict.

"Previously, China's inability to deploy troops in large numbers and provide logistical support was considered a weakness, but if Russia provides technical support, it will become a more serious problem for Taiwan's anti-amphibious operations," said Su Ziyun, director of the Institute for National Defense and Security Studies, a Taiwanese think tank.

At the same time, Sohu noted that amphibious landings are not the only way to theoretically attack the island. According to one version, the Chinese military may also use air raids. In addition, Beijing is already ready to launch long-range missile strikes.
