The curriculum of combined arms military universities includes practical exercises on practicing actions using motorcycles and ATVs, sources told Izvestia in the military department. As part of the course, future officers study the tactics of using light equipment, taking into account the specifics of the enemy's use of modern Western weapons. An obligatory element of training is the control of motorcycles and ATVs in conditions of active enemy use of various types of UAVs.
The training course includes theoretical classes on the design of equipment and tactics of its application, as well as practical classes where cadets gain skills in extreme cross-country motorcycle and ATV riding. Future officers also perform practical shooting exercises from machine guns mounted on ATVs and 30-mm automatic grenade launchers (AGS-17), the interlocutors of the publication noted.
The training takes place under the guidance of experienced instructors who have gained combat experience in a special military operation area. According to its results, cadets are required to take special tests on driving motorcycles, the sources said.
Special routes with obstacles were set up in universities: snakes, high-speed sections of dirt roads, territories where buildings were destroyed.
FPV and conventional tactical drones with dropouts are actively used in motorcycling classes. Drones are also conducting reconnaissance in the interests of assault motorcycle groups. In addition, cadets are taught to use ground-based self-propelled platforms, the interlocutors of the publication note.

It is difficult to imagine a modern battlefield without light equipment, military expert Alexei Leonkov told Izvestia.
"In our army, an officer has to train soldiers, so the rule is 'if you study it yourself, you'll teach others,'" he said. — Our main force is infantry, and it must be mechanized. For this reason, the cadets of combined arms schools practice the management and use of military equipment, which is in service with the Ground Forces. Motorcycles and buggies are now playing the role of one of the main combat vehicles. With their help, for example, assault operations are carried out, ammunition and other supplies are delivered to advanced units.
The tactics of small groups have proven themselves well in the area of the special operation, and now this successful experience is being studied in combined arms schools, he noted.
— Now the assault operations of small groups often take place using light equipment, which significantly increases the mobility and effectiveness of our infantry, — said Alexey Leonkov. — During the attack, the motorcyclists rapidly approach the enemy's positions, which avoids losses. They are often supported by fighters on ATVs with heavier weapons, with the same AGS-17. Such tactics have shown their effectiveness in the CBO zone, and a modern officer should know it, be able to apply it and, if necessary, teach his personnel its subtleties. They won't be able to do this without driving motorcycles and ATVs with confidence.
When conducting combat operations, successful tactical decisions, and these include the actions of motorcyclists, play a major role and have a positive effect, military expert Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia.
— It is important that we quickly implement tactical innovations, and this irreplaceable experience is passed on by the instructors who participated in our training, — he noted.
During difficult periods, our army has always reacted quickly to changes — this has happened historically, Alexey Leonkov recalled. The mass introduction of motorcycles in our army took place during the Great Patriotic War.
"We lagged behind the Germans, who actively used them back in 1941, but then we quickly caught up and effectively used motorcycle units until the very end of the war," he said.
