Russian and Vietnamese sailors will hold protocol and sports events
MOSCOW, October 12. /tass/. The frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the corvette Gremyashchy and the large sea tanker Boris Butoma of the Pacific Fleet arrived at the port of Da Nang of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This was reported in the press service of the fleet.

At the pier, the Russian military sailors were met by officials of the Naval Forces of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and representatives of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam," the message says.
The press service clarified that Russian and Vietnamese sailors will hold protocol and sports events. In addition, Pacific Islanders are scheduled to visit the sights and get acquainted with the local culture.
About cooperation
The cooperation between the Russian Navy and the Vietnamese Navy has been going on for more than 70 years. Vietnam, as representatives of the country's government and military leadership have repeatedly stated, will always remember the unparalleled feat of the Soviet sailors who helped in the struggle for the country's independence. During the Vietnamese struggle against French colonialism in 1945-1954 and the confrontation with American aggression in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Russian sailors provided access to ports for cargo ships delivering necessary weapons, ammunition, food and medicines for the young republic.
In the current period of peaceful development of the country, Pacific Fleet ships traditionally continue to come with friendly visits to its shores. Located on the Cam Ranh Peninsula, the fleet logistics center has been the largest base of the Russian Navy abroad for 23 years. After the Cam Ranh logistics center had fully fulfilled its purpose, Russia officially returned the facility to Vietnam in May 2002.
For the first time since the withdrawal of the military contingent, Russian warships entered Cam Ranh in June 2014. Then Cam Ranh was visited by a Pacific Fleet squadron consisting of the large anti-submarine ship Marshal Shaposhnikov, the medium sea tanker Irkut and the rescue vessel Alatau.

Marshal Shaposhnikov was launched in January 1985 at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad as a large anti-submarine ship of Project 1155. In 2016, it was repaired and upgraded in Vladivostok at the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center. During the modernization, Marshal Shaposhnikov was reclassified into a frigate and received modern Kalibr-NK and Uran attack missile systems. After testing, the frigate returned to the Pacific Fleet on April 27, 2021.
The lead corvette of project 20385 "Gremyashchy" was built at the Severnaya Verf plant. The St. Andrew's flag was raised in December 2020. The ship arrived at the main base of the Pacific Fleet on November 30, 2021, along with the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Volkhov submarines.
The large marine tanker Boris Butoma is a tanker for the integrated supply of Pacific Fleet ships. It was built according to the project of 1559 (code "Sea space") at the Baltic Shipyard. It was commissioned on October 30, 1978.
