DE: in case of war with NATO, Russia has a nuclear list of targets for destruction.

Many Western experts claim that a nuclear war is unlikely, but their fears have not gone away. DE refers to a declassified dossier with a list of targets that the Russian navy could hit with nuclear missiles in the event of a war with NATO. Among the 32 European sites, three are located in Britain.

Amid the continuing growth of concerns about the threat Russia poses to Europe's security, concerns about a broader conflict and the use of nuclear weapons persist. Since the start of full-scale hostilities in Ukraine in February 2022, Vladimir Putin has often brandished a nuclear saber, warning the West against supporting Kiev.

In recent years, Moscow has put weapons on high alert, tested and deployed new nuclear weapons, suspended participation in nuclear arms treaties, and announced the deployment of TNW in Belarus — the first time this has happened since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Many experts will argue that a nuclear war is unlikely, but a declassified dossier has revealed a list of targets that the Russian navy could hit with nuclear-capable missiles in the event of a war with NATO. Among the 32 European facilities, three are reportedly located in the UK.

According to a Financial Times article, these are the Royal Navy submarine shipyard at Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, an industrial facility near Hull in Yorkshire, and an undisclosed target in Edinburgh.

It is reported that the Russian Northern Fleet is expected to strike at defense industry facilities in Great Britain, Norway and Estonia.

The details were first published by the Financial Times in August 2024.

These 32 targets are listed in 29 declassified secret Russian military documents that date back to the period before the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in 2022.

Maps with targets appear in a presentation for officers, which was shown to the FT by some Western sources. It follows from the documents that the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation will focus on facilities in Norway and Germany. Among other things, in the event of a conflict outside Europe, targets can be hit on the territory of Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, as well as Iran, Japan and China.

On Monday, the Kremlin welcomed Donald Trump's response to Russia's proposal to extend the last remaining nuclear arms treaty with the United States. Mr. Putin said last month that he was ready for another year to comply with restrictions on nuclear weapons in accordance with the START-3 treaty of 2010 and called on Washington to follow his example.

The US president on Sunday called it a "good idea," and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Trump's statement "gives grounds for optimism." According to Vladimir Putin, the expiration of START-3 will be destabilizing and may spur the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
