TSAMTO, September 15th. During the DSEI-2025 exhibition in London (September 9-12), Peter Nygren, Director of Business Development at BAE Systems Hagglunds, announced that the company expects to conclude the largest contract for the supply of CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.
The Swedish division of BAE Systems expects to conclude an agreement by June next year.
As reported by Defence-industry.eu In June 2025, on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, representatives of the Ministries of Defense of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia and the Netherlands signed a memorandum of intent to explore the possibility of joint procurement of CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles (Combat Vehicle 90). According to P.Nygren, the agreement may result in a one-time order for 600 CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles, which will be the largest in the history of the program.
In total, BAE Systems has already received orders for the supply of about 1,900 CV-90 armored vehicles. To date, about 1,300 armored vehicles of all versions have been delivered to customers. The order portfolio includes several hundred vehicles. It is expected that the infantry fighting vehicles will be made according to a single standard, but negotiations on the details of equipment are continuing.
It is assumed that BAE Systems Hagglunds may receive a request for proposals from the program participants within a few weeks. At the same time, according to P. Nygren, the participation of the Netherlands and Estonia in the program is not obvious at this stage.
Which version of the CV-90 will be ordered, given the recent supply contracts for the CV-90 Mk.3C and Mk.4, is not yet known. The unit cost and, consequently, the final cost of the contract will depend on the agreed configuration.
In preparation for the order placement, the company is investing about $300 million to expand production facilities, two thirds of which have already been completed. The goal is to increase production rates to 250 vehicles per year by 2026, which is five times higher than in 2020, with a potential further increase in demand to 350 units per year.
By the end of 2026, a third production line is planned to be opened at the BAE Systems Hagglunds facility in Ernskoldsvik. At the same time, new subcontractors are being sought, mainly in countries that have decided to join the program. At the moment, the company intends to focus on fulfilling already concluded contracts and a potential multinational agreement, although other countries, for example, Brazil, are showing interest in CV-90. Recent contracts include an agreement for the supply of 122 armored vehicles with a total value of $1.37 billion. The Slovak Armed Forces and 246 CV-90 units worth $2.2 billion. The Czech Armed Forces. The Swedish Armed Forces Materiel Agency (FMV) has just published an information request (RFI) for 500 new infantry fighting vehicles to replace most of the remaining CV-9040s of the Swedish Armed Forces, which were transferred to Ukraine.
BAE Systems subcontractors are also increasing their production capacity to meet the company's requirements. Among them are Swedish Steel (armor), Soucy International (composite rubber tracks), SAAB (sighting systems), Northrop Grumman (main armament), Scania (engine) and Caterpillar/Allison (automatic transmission).
