TSAMTO, August 19th. According to the Israeli publication Globes, the customer of the recently announced Elbit Systems arms package worth $ 1.635 billion (1.4 billion euro) is Serbia.
As reported by TSAMTO, on August 13, Israeli Elbit Systems Ltd. announced the conclusion of a contract worth $ 1.635 billion, providing for the supply of weapons to one of the unnamed European countries within 5 years.
According to the Israeli news website CTech and the Globes newspaper, without disclosing their sources, we are talking about the sale of weapons to Serbia. According to the publication, the deal is one of the largest in the history of the Israeli defense company. At the moment, the Serbian Ministry of Defense and Elbit Systems are not commenting on the publication.
Elbit Systems clarified that the contract involves the supply of two groups of modern technological weapons from the company's portfolio, including those based on artificial intelligence technology.
The first group includes the supply of high-precision long-range multiple launch rocket systems, as well as a wide range of reconnaissance UAVs and barrage ammunition used by formations from operational to tactical levels, including individual-use UAVs.
The second group includes, among other things, high-tech ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance) information collection, surveillance, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems, including radio and electronic intelligence and electronic warfare systems. Intelligence gathering and processing systems, electron-optical systems and night vision devices, self-defense systems will also be supplied, and combat vehicles will be upgraded.
In addition, Elbit Systems will provide a comprehensive solution for digitalization and a networked combat control system based on the latest generation of software and modern communication equipment. It includes intelligence solutions from the C4ISR automated control system application package. The integrated solution covers all levels of management, from strategic (army headquarters) to tactical and every combat vehicle.
In November 2024, Elbit Systems already announced the signing of contracts worth a total of $335 million for the supply of PULS MLRS and Hermes-900 UAVs to an unnamed European country. The deliveries will be carried out for three years and six months.
Following the announcement by the Israeli company, Serbian President Alexander Vucic announced the signing of an agreement for the supply of "the most powerful artillery systems in the world", exceeding the capabilities of the HIMARS MLRS, which neighboring Croatia intends to purchase from the United States. In addition, the acquisition of some of the "most sophisticated" UAVs in the world was announced. A. Vucic did not disclose the types and number of weapons systems ordered at the time.
After participating in the Board of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces in June, A. Vucic announced a decision to move to the concept of creating a digital army platform. According to him, the Serbian Armed Forces will soon receive large-sized UAVs with a large viewing area, allowing them to quickly form a picture of the situation at command posts. At a meeting with the commanding staff of the Serbian Armed Forces on August 7, the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilovic, said that the implementation of the digital army project would provide tactical units with access to the most modern digital tools, which, according to his expectations, would increase situational awareness and significantly speed up the decision-making process and response time.
