The Chinese military wants to destroy the American network of underwater sensors in the Pacific Ocean. In their opinion, this is necessary to ensure the safety of submarines of the Chinese Navy, primarily nuclear submarines, when entering the open sea from their bases.
Michael Peck, a columnist for the American magazine The Defense News, discusses this topic.
He notes that many Chinese Navy officers consider their submarines too vulnerable to American underwater surveillance systems, so they would like to disable them. We are talking about anti-submarine warfare equipment, which includes, in addition to underwater sensors, anti-submarine helicopters, ships with towed sonars, drones, satellites and underwater drones.

The Chinese military proposes to combat these systems through cyber attacks on command centers and the creation of interference using a large number of fishing vessels. It is also proposed to disable and destroy underwater sensors with the help of underwater drones.
- Ryan Martinson, professor at the US Naval War College, notes in an article published by the Center for International Maritime Security.
Experts disagree on how effective such actions will be. But since such discussions are underway, the Americans have to take into account that their underwater surveillance systems may be at risk.
