One month for training
Separate motorcycle companies have been created in motorized rifle formations. Before going to the front, the soldiers undergo a one-month special training course at training grounds, sources in the Russian Defense Ministry told Izvestia.
The training program includes practicing assault operations both in forest belts and in urban areas. The fighters study tactical orientation, camouflage, and combat work in conditions of active counteraction to UAVs. Motorcyclists also master overcoming areas of open terrain while maintaining combat order. Special attention is paid to the moral and psychological state of the personnel, the interlocutors told the publication.
Motorcycle detachments are now actively used in the SVO zone, including for solving assault tasks. And the creation of regular units is an indicator that they have justified themselves, military expert Yuri Lyamin told Izvestia.
"The UAVs that have captured the sky on the line of contact are changing the rules of the game," he clarified. — In order to survive, vehicles need to be either super-armored to withstand attacks, or super-maneuverable and inconspicuous to escape or hide from drones. Motorcycles belong to the latter type of car. The fighters on them can act both independently and together with armored vehicles. Heavy vehicles will be distracted by drones, while motorcyclists, taking advantage of their high mobility, perform unexpected maneuvers for the enemy.
The motorcycle's high mobility allows it to evade drone attacks and move around areas where heavier equipment will not pass, he noted.
— In the same forests, forest belts or in dilapidated urban areas, a motorcycle in many situations will be more "passable" than a tank, — said Yuri Lyamin. — Electric bikes will be good when driving in the dark — they are practically inaudible. Despite the presence of night vision devices in the opponents, it is not so easy to notice such a car.
Experimentally
The final tactics of such units will be determined by their use in combat conditions, Colonel Valery Yuryev, chairman of the central board of the Union of Paratroopers of Russia, told Izvestia.
"Everything new is born and proves the right to life in the course of experiments and military operations," he noted. — An attack by a company on motorcycles in a deployed formation is an unlikely picture. I think that the fighters of these companies will have to storm the positions mainly on foot. The motorcycle will be needed in order for the fighters to get as close as possible to the concentration site before the attack, as well as during transfers in areas close to the line of combat. Of course, there have been motorcycle attacks, but it's hard to compete with drones in terms of speed, especially if you're driving over rough terrain. Such attacks require surprise and a number of other conditions that will help them succeed.
Motorcycle units will be useful for solving local or specific tasks, the expert believes.
— For example, for conducting reconnaissance, — said Valery Yuryev. — In this case, the fighters need silent electric motorcycles. In addition, they can evacuate the wounded, bring ammunition and cargo to positions where heavier equipment will not pass for one reason or another.
Experiments are already underway in several countries to create motorcycle units and use them in combat situations, Yuri Lyamin noted.
"They began after a thorough study of the experience of a special military operation," the expert recalled. — It turns out that before our eyes there is a revival of motorcycle parts that faded into the background or were forgotten after the Second World War.
A quick assault
Izvestia wrote that motorcycle fighters played a major role in the liberation of Orekhovo in the DPR. They distracted the enemy's air forces from the north, while our attack aircraft attacked the settlement from the south.
The motorcyclists acted as a group of five people at dawn. Each man had powerful electronic warfare (EW) systems in his backpack. They dodged, left, and worked without second numbers to make it easier to distract the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters. Due to the fact that the motorcycle is a small target, it is difficult for the drone operator to hit.
Thanks to this plan, the Russian Armed Forces were able to quickly enter the village, gain a foothold in it and reach the borders of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
