As previously reported by VO, the South African company Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) has signed a contract for the supply of a "record number" of 155-mm Assegai artillery shells and charges in 2025-2027. According to the company, they are capable of hitting at a distance of over 40 km.

As it became known, the Swedish Ministry of Defense is the customer of Assegai from RDM, as it made an official statement, according to which these shells are designed for Archer self-propelled howitzers. These self-propelled guns are only in service with Sweden (26 units), Britain (14) and Ukraine (8 copies were transferred; Stockholm recently purchased 10 barrels for them).
- the military department explained.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Assegai shot consists of an M2000HE type projectile ("HE" stands for high-explosive fragmentation) and an M92A3 modular propellant charge.
It is worth noting that earlier, after the start of its military operation, according to some reports, Poland tried to order a batch of Rheinmetall ammunition produced in South Africa, but the deal did not take place due to Pretoria's concerns about the possible transfer of ammunition to Kiev.
