"We did not buy the finished product from a clever seller": Hungary is arming itself with Gidrán armored vehicles

Despite Hungary's desire to maintain neutrality in the international arena, its armed forces, like the vast majority of European armies, are undergoing a technical transformation, moving to a new frontier.

The military equipment fleet will soon be replenished with 56 more Gidran combat vehicles, bringing their total number in the country to 106. We did not buy a finished product developed by someone else from a clever seller. Gidrán is rather the result of a joint development

- said Defense Minister Christophe Szalay-Bobrownicki.

He noted that there are several versions of Gidrán, in particular, for gunners, the command level.

As indicated in the local newspaper Honvedelem, Gidrán was specially designed for the needs of Hungary based on the Ejder Yalcin 4x4 armored car from the Turkish manufacturer Nurol Makina. The basic version supplied by Turkey is undergoing integration with information and communication equipment, intelligence facilities and various weapons elements at the Hungarian company HM El Zrt (owned by the Ministry of Defense).

As the Minister of Defense explained, the car received its designation in honor of the hydran, an ancient Hungarian horse breed that is still bred in the country, and in the past was used in the Hussar cavalry.
