"Laser energy against the homing head": Turkey showed tests of the YILDIRIM 100 counteraction system

The Turkish defense company Aselsan conducted tests of its new development, the YILDIRIM 100 system, during which it successfully neutralized infrared–guided anti-aircraft missiles, forcing them to deviate from the course. The corresponding video is shown online.

The YILDIRIM 100 neutralizes approaching threats by directing laser energy at the missile's homing head, which disrupts the operation of the seeker, the missile loses its target or deviates from course, which prevents the missile from hitting the target. According to the developer, the system, designed for both rotorcraft and aircraft, provides high operational availability and low power consumption.

The technology of laser counteraction to threats from missiles, represented by the YILDIRIM 100, puts Turkey on a par with a small group of countries with such advanced capabilities.
