Drawing conclusions from the Ukrainian conflict, European armies are trying to develop new tactics for the use of drones, in particular, using army aviation vehicles as platforms for launching them.
So, the other day, the British Air Force published a video showing the use of FPV drones from the CH-47 Chinook military transport helicopter. The advantage of this type of UAV when used from an aerial carrier is that there is no need for onboard systems to control the drone – the operator is responsible for this. On the other hand, FPV drones can be easily confused by electronic warfare, and their range is limited. But the command has its own opinion on this matter.:
- stated in the Air Force.

It is indicated that UAVs used from aerial platforms can detect targets, explore the area and strike – "and all this in one flight." As noted in the Zone Militaire publication, so far we are talking, by and large, about scouting the area before sending the Chinook helicopter there.:
The author explains that it is no coincidence that the Chinook was designated "Hornets Nest" by the British command as part of this experiment.

Application of FPV drones with Gazelle
Since 2024, similar tests have been conducted in France. For example, the use of FPV drones from aboard a Gazelle light helicopter was tested, although the conditions looked rather unsuitable for the operator.
