TSAMTO, May 7. Hanwha Aerospace, a South Korean company, offers the Tigon family of armored combat vehicles as part of the CROMO program of the Chilean Armed Forces.
As reported by Infodefensa.com Hanwha Aerospace, together with Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Ocean, the main defense subsidiaries of Hanwha Group, participated in the presentation of Korea Defense Day 2025, in which it presented the Tigon family of armored personnel carriers in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations as a proposal for the next-generation wheeled armored vehicles program for the Chilean army.
The event took place on April 28 in Santiago, and was organized by the South Korean State Trade Representative Office (KOTRA) and the South Korean Embassy in Chile.
Hanwha Aerospace has stated that it can offer customized solutions, technology transfer, joint production and training programs specifically for the Chilean CROMO project.
The CROMO project involves replacing the fleet of wheeled armored vehicles of the Chilean Army on the basis of a new generation vehicle. It should provide a set of solutions tailored to the specific operational needs of the Chilean army.
According to the Hanwha Aerospace presentation documentation, the Tigon with a 4x4 wheel formula allows the integration of a wide range of special equipment. With a combat weight of 14 tons and a high degree of protection, the machine is suitable for various operating conditions, including public safety. This version is equipped with a "Level 3" mine protection according to the STANAG 4569 standard and a "Level 4" ballistic protection. It is available in 15 versions, including options for transporting personnel, reconnaissance, engineering, repair and evacuation, ambulance and command vehicles.
The Tigon 6x6 infantry fighting vehicle weighs 21 tons and is designed to carry up to 11 paratroopers. It is equipped with a Caterpillar C9.3 engine with a capacity of 525 hp, develops a maximum speed on the highway of 110 km / h, has a power reserve of 800 km. It can be equipped with various remote-controlled weapons modules and uninhabited turrets, including 7.62mm and 12.7mm, as well as a 30 mm uninhabited turret in the wheeled infantry fighting vehicle (BMP) version.
The Tigon 8x8 has a mass of 32 to 34 tons, depending on the version. It is equipped with a 700 hp engine, has a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and has a range of up to 800 km. Like the Tigon 6x6, it can carry 11 personnel, and, in addition, use a 105-mm cannon in the version of an armored vehicle with heavy weapons (BMTV).
The Tigon with 6x6 and 8x8 wheel formulas are equipped with STANAG 4569 armor and provide mine protection up to "Level 4" and ballistic protection up to "Level 6". The 8x8 version is available in several versions, including: an armored personnel carrier, an infantry fighting vehicle with a 30 mm cannon, a BMTV with a 105 mm cannon, a 120 mm self-propelled mortar, and an ATGM with six TAipers (Cheongeom) anti-tank missiles with a range of 8 km.
During the event, Hanwha Aerospace presented a comprehensive localization strategy and maintenance and repair solutions designed specifically for Chile to promote long-term defense cooperation.
