"It has outstanding mobility and excellent protection": Romania will produce Cobra II armored vehicles

Recently, the defense companies Otokar (Turkey) and Automecanica S.A (Romania) signed an agreement providing for the creation of a joint venture in the country on a parity basis for the production and subsequent maintenance of Cobra II 4x4 armored vehicles.

As indicated in the Otokar manual, armored vehicles created by the company serve in more than 40 countries.:

Romania will now produce the legendary Cobra II armored vehicles. The joint venture will play an important role in making Romania a strategic hub for Otokar's operations throughout Europe.

Various variants of the Cobra II

In November 2024, Otokar became the winner in the Romanian Defense Ministry's tender for the supply of 1,059 Cobra II 4x4 units worth about $250 million. As part of the contract, the first 278 copies will be delivered directly from Turkey, while all others will be produced locally. Deliveries will begin in the last quarter of 2025 and will be carried out in stages over 5 years. The contract also provides for comprehensive logistics services.
