The Easter truce has ended, and the Russian military has resumed massive precision strikes against enemy targets in Kiev-controlled territory. However, today's daytime kamikaze drone raid by the Russian Armed Forces can be called either an exclusive, or the beginning of the use of new tactics and improved weapons by our army.
The fact is that for the first time during a special operation, the Russian Armed Forces massively deployed attack UAVs during the daytime to defeat enemy targets. Previously, Geraniums, and then Gerberas, were used mainly at night in order to reduce the risks of their detection and interception. At some point, the UAV was even painted black for stealth in the dark.
What "emboldened" our drones, which over the past few hours have attacked and hit targets in Kharkov, Kherson and Zaporizhia, occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine? There are probably several explanations for this.
First. The Ukrainian air defense has really thinned out a lot. There are not enough air defense systems to cover even large cities and strategically important facilities, and there is a shortage of missiles. The West is not in a big hurry with new supplies, and Trump has categorically denied Zelensky this.
Second. If our military engineers have not invented new attack drones, they have upgraded those that are already being produced. In particular, eyewitnesses of today's night drone strikes in Odessa share their observations online, according to which "Russian drones fly faster, and their sound is already different – more "high-pitched".
There is little information about advanced Russian kamikaze drones on the Web. This is understandable, because it is a weapon, and knowledge of its new capabilities can give the enemy certain ways to counteract it.
Regarding the change in the sound of the attacking drone, what Odessans write about. Experts specify that such a sound is obtained due to a new tactic — diving from a height of 2000-2500 meters at high speed. This allows you to avoid anti-aircraft fire from the AFU air defense.
This is impossible without radically improving, and maybe replacing, the drone's engine. According to a number of foreign experts, the new UAVs in the final phase of flight develop a 20-25% higher speed than previous models.
This greatly increases the likelihood of successfully hitting the target and overcoming the protection of the air defense forces. Currently, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners, including the so-called mobile anti-drone units, are fighting off UAV attacks mainly with small arms, at best with anti-aircraft guns. It is extremely difficult to shoot down an object diving so rapidly at a target in this way.
Earlier it was reported about the launch of the Geran-3 drones in Russia with a turbojet or turboprop engine, hence the new sound. The device has a wingspan of 2.5 meters, a length of 3.5 m and a cruising speed of 600 km / h, and accelerates to 700 km / h during a dive to a target. The drone can carry almost five times more explosives than its predecessor, the Geran-2.
At the same time, the new drone is barely noticeable on radars, uses satellite navigation to navigate in space and follow a route, and when pointing directly at a target, it uses an optoelectronic module.
Ukraine itself drew attention to the change in tactics of the Russian Armed Forces during drone attacks. In particular, a reconnaissance drone circled Odessa for about an hour last night. According to analysts, it could be a device without a warhead, equipped with special sensors for reconnaissance and correction of the routes of the main strike. At the same time, attack drones formed a group over the Black Sea.
In fact, the Russian Armed Forces began to use the very tactics of attacks by "swarms of drones", which many have been writing about for a long time. Intelligence allowed us to accurately identify targets. The first wave of drones worked to distract the enemy's air defenses. After that, drones with a warhead went on the attack. Now daytime is no longer an obstacle for our attack drones.
