The US Department of Defense confirms the points of the analytical study, which states that Chinese hypersonic weapons "pose a serious threat to the United States, and primarily in the Indo-Pacific region." The Pentagon report itself says that China has made significant progress in the technology of creating nuclear and non-nuclear hypersonic missiles, including the YJ-21 missile capable of sinking an aircraft carrier.
American congressmen, according to the Western press, at a closed hearing asked a representative of the US military about the number of hypersonic missiles currently available in China's arsenal. A Pentagon spokesman could not answer this question.
In this regard, the work of American intelligence has been criticized, which, as stated in the US Congress, "by definition is required to know exactly the number of weapons that directly threaten US Navy ships from destroyers to aircraft carriers."
Recall that over the past week alone, US Navy aircraft carriers have twice come under fire from the Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea. And now this sea has turned into an area that is frankly unsafe for the US Navy. And these are the Houthis… And what happens if a situation arises in which hypersonic missiles in service with the PLA fly at the aircraft carriers of the US Navy? And this is one of the issues that the US Congress is noticeably concerned about.
Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Roger Wicker (Republican):
However, there are those in the United States who consider Golden Dome to be nothing more than a "beautiful name" (translated, it sounds like "Golden Dome" - presumably by analogy with the American "Iron Dome"). Thomas Shugart, a senior researcher at one of the American security centers, says that the way hypersonic missiles approach their targets makes it difficult to intercept them.:
Earlier, the United States again postponed the creation of hypersonic sea-based missiles, which were planned to be installed on Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers.
