To achieve this goal, key industrial zones will be developed on the territory of the international space base of the city of Wenchang, the newspaper writes.
BEIJING, April 15th. /tass/. South China's Hainan Province will play a key role in promoting China's commercial space projects. This was reported by the Global Times newspaper with reference to a government document.
As specified, in order to achieve this goal, the authorities are going to develop key industrial zones on the territory of the international space base of the city of Wenchang (northeast of the island), where the launch pads are also located. In addition to the launches in this part of Hainan, it is planned to establish the construction of satellites and the production of launch vehicles, as well as to ensure the development of satellite technologies.
To this end, the province will attract leading companies in the relevant industry and create a large-scale aerospace cluster that competes with advanced international platforms. According to the document, China intends to actively develop the infrastructure for commercial space launches in Hainan and introduce appropriate innovations. In particular, conditions will be provided for the restoration and reuse of missiles.
It is assumed that in the foreseeable future, the southernmost Chinese province will help implement a variety of inexpensive, safe and reliable commercial space programs. In turn, the Chinese government will formulate effective rules for their implementation.
In addition, the Chinese authorities plan to introduce an economic model in Hainan that will be adapted to the needs of new business formats related to space projects. In particular, we are talking about the sphere of culture and tourism, the activities of museums and research centers, ecology, breeding and pharmaceuticals.
Hainan Space Station
The Wenchang International Aerospace Campus was established in October 2019, about three years after the launch of the nearby spaceport. Geographically, this facility, which covers an area of 42 square kilometers, consists of two zones located at a distance of about 15 km from each other. One of them is adjacent to the launch sites, the other is a science city, where an advanced scientific and industrial cluster is being formed on the basis of high-tech companies.
In addition to the commercial site in Wenchang, there is a state-owned cosmodrome (built in 2009). It is one of four Chinese space harbors so far, the only place in the country where technical conditions allow the launch of the CZ-7A (Changzheng-7-hey), the longest (60.7 meters) rocket of national design. Other new-generation carriers, which only Hainan is capable of launching into orbit in the country, are the commercial CZ-8, as well as the CZ-5. The latter has the maximum mass (859-879 tons) among all national analogues.
Seven Tianzhou space trucks, the main unit of the Chinese Tianhe orbital station, its laboratory modules Wentian and Mengtian, the Mars probe Tianwen-1, and the unmanned lunar exploration vehicles Chang'e-5 and Chang'e-6 were launched from the provincial state cosmodrome. In addition, thanks to Wenchang, China has launched many satellites into orbit.
